Freezing Point
As the concentration of solute in a solution increases, the freezing point decreases. In order for something to freeze, it must create a crystaline structure. When adding an aditional substance to the pure substance (typically water), the particles get in the way of the natural crystaline formation, slowing the freezing process down. This means that the solution must get even colder before it would actually freeze.
